Precinct Two Commissioner Mark Jones hosted a stakeholder meeting on June 14, 2012 for property owners and other interested parties on the upcoming construction for the FM 1626 Safety Expansion project. About 50 project corridor residents attended the meeting, which was held at the Elm Grove Elementary School located on FM 1626 south of the project area. Commissioner Jones provided an update on the project and the status of the Interlocal Agreement with Travis County, which will allow Hays County to acquire right-of-way in Travis County while the planned FM 1626 improvements in that county are being designed. Jeff Watson, assistant Project Manager for the Hays County Pass-Through Finance Program, reviewed the construction phasing elements and walked the meeting attendees through the County’s construction website, showing where construction updates, two week look-aheads and “find your driveway” maps would be found. Mr. Watson also discussed how the construction contractor will communicate with property owners regarding driveway impacts. The County’s right-of-way acquisition representative, design engineer, and construction manager for the project were in attendance and were also available for questions before and after the presentation.
The following day, the Federal Highway Administration issued a Letter of Authority, clearing the project for construction bidding. The County will advertise the project for construction June 24, 2012 and open bids on July 17, 2012. The two-year construction will begin in mid-August.
